COLOURED CONCRETE AVAILABLE
For a substance so hard, concrete is an extremely versatile material. Aside from being the foundation for the majority of our buildings, roads and bridges, it has been used in artwork and decorative purposes since its inception back in 1300 BC. However, the term ‘concrete art’ wasn’t coined until 1930 by artist Theo van Doesburg in his manifesto on the topic. The concrete art movement had a strong focus on geometric abstraction and transcending medium boundaries. So when did concrete and colour meet?
Since the 1890s, many building companies have been using stains in their concrete to liven up the usual grey facade. Techniques varied from submerging the concrete casting into chemical stains whilst others mixed pigment into fresh concrete. The result? Our favourite building material with a fresh new look. The addition of colour into concrete was one of the pushes for concrete to start being made in batches, which is how we most commonly consume concrete today. This way, concrete contractors can form a permanent bond in the concrete paste to ensure the finish lasts for years and years to come.
WHAT IS COLOURED CONCRETE?
Coloured concrete is the same substance as your generic ready-mix concrete, just with some added pigmentation for your desired colour. It is made up of cement, aggregates, water, and the colour pigment is added in the mixing process. When you use coloured concrete, you can choose whether you want to use this opportunity for the concrete to blend in with its surroundings or pull all the attention as the focal point. Adding colour to your concrete gives a new dimension to your project; this way, you can also accurately colour match any new concrete with an existing pour.

HOW DOES COLOURED CONCRETE AGE?
One thing we love about concrete is its timelessness. The way coloured concrete is dyed ensures each batch is the exact same colour, so even for a large order of ready-mix coloured concrete, you can be sure it will look cohesive once poured. Coloured concrete is also fade-resistant, even under the harmful UV rays we experience in Australia. Our coloured concrete is fade resistant and weatherproof to ensure your chosen pigmentation will not be lost over time.
IS COLOURED CONCRETE MORE EXPENSIVE?
Coloured concrete does cost you a little more than our regular concrete. It’s the price you have to pay to stand out!
PRICE OF COLOURED CONCRETE
If you wonder how much a load of ready-mix colour concrete will set you back, you can use our concrete calculator to determine the estimated volume required. All you need to know is the length, width and height of the area to calculate the concrete quantity.
